Travels with Joy - Part 5 Chicago & Our Journey's End

By far one of my favorite cities is Chicago, not necessarily because it's the best city to visit in the world, though I would put it in my top 10 favorite cities, but because it's the one with which I am the most familiar. Chicago is a lovely city located right on Lake Michigan. The down town area, "the Loop" which is dubbed so because of the elevated train that runs around the perimeter of the area, is clean and organized. Unlike most large cities located on waterfronts, Chicago's waterfront is completely lined by parks, Grant Park to the south and Lincoln Park to the north. Residents and visitors can walk safely along the lake for miles without being disturbed by traffic. Chicago is known for it's good food and great music.

Located on the south end of the downtown area and right on the lake is the museum complex which has the Field Museum of Natural History, the Adler Planetarium and the Shedddinosaur and Egyptian exhibits. We retraced our steps through the cornfields of Illinois and the hills of Kentucky before we finally settled down for the night in Corbin, Kentucky. A 275 mile drive the next day brought us home just in time to unpack the car and turn around and head off to my daughter's orchestra practice and trip to our local zoo. Isn't life grand?
